Going Extra-mile

Being simple person is a good thing and behaving like common people is another positive thing. But when we talk about professional life, being different, bold and impressive is very important to get success and to get more and more knowledge. If we just follow the system and do not do something extra or something distinctive then achieving our goals become more difficult. But if we do a little effort more than other do it is called going extra-mile. I’ll elaborate this with a short instance. For example if we want to get job in a company and they have opened vacancies and procedure to apply for this job doesn’t need any hard copy submission of any of our documents but still we go their, introduce ourselves and drop our resume there it would be a good impression of us and this activity is known as going extra-mile.

If a person wants a job and he has applied in many organisations, companies or industries and he is working a lot to get job but still he couldn’t find. Then he must go extra-mile. He should go to the company, organisation or wherever he wants job, he should drop his CV there and even he should meet different recruiters at different places and introduce himself. This is very different and effective way. Every time he will get a new type of experience and it will improve his personality and it will make him able for a good job.

Here I want to share my first personal CV drop experience. One year ago, when I was in search of an internship or a job in chemical industry. One of my friends tell me about new vacancies opened in the industry he was was working in. I got the details of post I was applying for; I updated my CV according to that then I sent CV on the provided mailing address.

I was almost done with my liability but still I wasn’t satisfied. I decided to visit that industry and to meet the HR in-person and to drop my CV there. This was very challenging task for me as I am very shy and I never meet new people without any reason. I wanted to experience new things, to get familiar with professionals' life and to visit an industry.

When I went to gate, gatekeeper asked my identity. I introduced myself and told him about my concern of visiting industry. He sent me to the receptionist but receptionist wasn’t present there. I went to gatekeeper once again and I requested him to go inside but he told me his restriction to follow the advice of higher authorities. Then I came back to receptionist room but still he was not available. I came out of that and sat in lawn. After a few minutes’ wait, receptionist was present in his room. I went to him and told the purpose of visit. He took my ID card, gave me a visiting card and guided me to the HR office. I went there but before reaching HR office I had collected a lot of new experiences, memories and clear images related to my profession which was blurred in my mind before that day. I knocked the office of HR and after getting permission I went inside. I introduced myself and told my purpose, he sent me to his assistant to give him my CV. Then I came back.

Reflect:

This was my first ever experience of elevator pitch but still it was very helpful. It raised my internal confidence and it was a great opportunity for me to creat an image of recruiters personality, behaviour and environment of working place, in my mind. My shyness was went off after this.
